Week #2 Canada and the plate boundry

In Canada there is two plate boundaries. One is on the south west coast and is a convergent and the other runs up the Canadian coast and is divergent. The plate is called Juan De Fuca Plate. I found this on page 30 in our book. The Juan De Fuca is responsible for many of the northern California quakes and all of the volcanoes in Oregon and Washington!

I was instructed to define the differences between hazards, disasters, and catastrophes.

Hazard- A hazard is a natural event that happens in the world that can be a threat to human nature or property. An example would be a volcano, avalanche, or earthquake. A good example would be the the bigsby bridge in Big Sur, the road leading to the bridge sank in from a rock slide.  The most number of deaths are recorded with tornadoes, and wind storms this is a major United States Hazard.

Disaster- A disaster occurs over a limited time and within a certain area.  When over 100 people are injured it becomes a state of emergency, and that state can request international assistance.  In the last half century, the risk and potential of natural disasters have raised by a dramatic amount, and causing millions of dollars each year.

Catastrophes-  a sudden widespread disaster. An example would be a disaster like a forest fire that got out of control, then became a catastrophe because of how quick it spread, the number of homes lost, and the amount of land burnt.
